One of the most influential musicians from the south of the USA is without a doubt Lead Belly. The gifted guitarist is endowed with the talent to write extremely provocative lyrics to his songs and is a recognized artist in the folk and blues scene.

The list of artists who have been inspired by him is long, including Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Animals, Bruce Springsteen and Lonnie Donegan, to name a few. Although the name and his songs are well known, few know anything about the person behind the name and his really interesting history.

For example, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder back in 1918 in Texas, but was released in 1925 for good behavior. Moreover, he spent some time of his life in Paris.
